ROCK/CREEK SALE ON CLIMBING GEAR
Hi - Jon here, publisher of the cult classic Night Climbers of Cambridge by Whipplesnaith.
Things have moved on a lot since the days of ol' Whip (opposite) hanging 100-foot up King's College Chapel, clinging to a lightning conductor and wearing nothing more high-tech than some old "gum-shoes".
I'm delighted to recommend the sale at Rock/Creek for all my climbing customers' gear needs - for, no matter how cool the book is, it can't really protect you from the elements and you can't make a good carabiner out of it...
See the great range at fantastic savings here (and there's free shipping over $49 too!):
"Black gum-shoes, which are cheap, are not conspicuous, and every climber who intends to go out often should buy a pair. Rare roof-climbers who are also mountain-climbers prefer to climb in nailed boots, but these are not to be recommended. Rubbers are much better on a dry night, and if a shower causes them to lose their grip it is best to come down and go home. In the wet, bare feet grip better than rubbers, and it is not painful to climb bare-footed."
